The painful hush.

It's a tale as old as time. Boy meets girl. Boy rapes girl. Boy threatens girl. Girl reports boy and is excommunicated. Or even worse, girl is scared to report boy, and the pain is hidden for the rest of their lives. The typical rape story happened in 2013 on Vanderbilt University's campus in Tennessee after two ex football starts then allegedly raped student in a dorm room about three years ago.

According to an article written by Eliana Dokterman, In January of last year the two young men were convicted and deemed guilty on all charges. This proves that the system does work!...Sometimes. A study in the article stated that 80% of campus sexual abuse cases went unreported. There is mostly a fear of ridicule, being judged, threatened and etc. Fortunately for this young lady, she was bold enough to report it, her story was heard, and there were consequences.

Rape is one of the few violent crimes that happen on both rural and urban campuses, and discriminates against no state, race, gender, or even age. Dokterman suggests that city police departments and government courts are more successful at handling these types of cases as opposed to quiet kept campus court cases. So don't hesitate! Don't wait! Because the pain you may receive and keep tucked away, is louder than any scream.
