Top Crime cities of 2015

American cities have already had their fair share of voilent crimes in 2016 so far. On a positive note, certain cities' significant decrease in crime rates have dropped them from the list, but unfortunately new cities have been added. Here is a list from www.lawstreetmedia.com of the most dangerous (from least to most dangerous) American cities of 2015.

10) Kansas City, Missouri

KC underwent 99 murders, 377 rapes, 1662 roberies, 3726 aggrivated assults in the year 2015. 18.8% of the population is below the line of poverty in Missouri. They have moved up from last years previous rank at #12.

9) Newark, New Jersey

Newark's murder rate has increased 16 percent from 2012-2015, including a 23% increase in robbery rates. The city has unfortunately risen 10 spots from its previouis rank of 19.

8) Birmingham, Alabama

Birmingham struggles to keep a low and steady murder rate. In 2013, low rates casused its drop from #6 to #8, but unfortunately, the city still struggles to maintain low rates.

7) Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Milwaukee surprsingly made its way onto the top ten list after the city had repotedly found over 500 unreported violent crimes from 2009-2012. The city is new to the list making it's first appearence after experiencing violent back to back year in 2013 and 2014.

6) Baltimore, Maryland

Though murder rates have decreased since last year, Baltimore has the second highest total number of murders at 233 homicides in 2015. After recent riots and violent protests, this statistic does not surprise me.

5) Cleveland Ohio

Sadly, Cleveland has moved up 3 spots from its previous #8 ranking. It is one of the few cities with an increase of murders since 2014. It also has an officer to population ratio of 1:264.

4) St Louis, Missouri

2015 showed its fewest number of crimes since 1966. Unfortunately, this downward trend has earned the city a spot on the upper half of the list. Another common trend in correlation with city crimes is the income rate. For St louis, the median annual income is $34, 384, a oretty low number.

3) Memphis, Tennessee

Memphis suffered 124 murders, 437 rapes, 3,133 robberies, and 7,200 aggravated assaults in the year of 2015 alone, which has caused it's rise from #4 to #3 on the list. EndFragment

2) Oakland, California

Good news? Oakland hasn't risen on the top ten list. Bad news? It hasn't moved down either. Oakland remains at #2 for the second year in a row. And its murder rate of 22 deaths per every 100,000 must decrease in order to see any results.

1) Detroit, Michigan

Not so lucky number one on the list, Detroit Michigan. Since the election of James Craig as chief of Justice, murder rates have risen from 11% to a whopping 43%. The poverty percentage can serve as a result and/or cause of the violence at 38.1%, the highest of all 10 cities.
